Preventative Maintenance Technician

Martin County Transit, a division of Senior Resource Association, is seeking a

Preventative Maintenance Technician to focus on preventive maintenance and routine repair of our transit fleet. Your work will help ensure buses and support vehicles remain safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community every day.

About the Role

The Preventative Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance, routine service, and occasional complex diagnostics and repairs on diesel and gasoline-powered transit buses, support vehicles, and related equipment. This position ensures vehicles are safe, reliable, and meet federal, state, and local standards. Work is performed under the direction of the Safety & Operations Manager and in collaboration with the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on buses and vehicles.
  • Inspect vehicles, diagnose issues, and document repairs using maintenance software.
  • Repair and maintain vehicle systems, including brakes, HVAC, and electrical.
  • Safely operate shop tools and diagnostic equipment; maintain a clean and safe workspace.
  • Provide roadside assistance and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical bulletins.
  • Support a collaborative team environment and promptly report safety concerns.
  • Serve as backup for vehicle fueling and shelter maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support vehicle maintenance operations.

What You Bring

Experience & Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in heavy-duty truck or automotive repair (transit or fleet experience preferred).
  • Ability to read and follow service manuals, schematics, and parts catalogs.
  • Familiarity with vehicle maintenance software preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Solid understanding of diesel and heavy-duty vehicle systems.
  • Skilled in diagnostics, repairs, and safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Proficient in basic computer tasks and recordkeeping.
  • Strong communication skills; able to work independently and on a team.
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, and handle exposure to fumes, noise, and weather.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Florida CDL (Class B) without air-brake restriction.
  • DOT Medical Certification required.
  • ASE Transit Bus Technician Certification preferred.
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification preferred.
  • Must pass DOT drug/alcohol screenings, and Level II background check with DOEA eligibility.
